Henderson NC
Brian Gainey (a customer) fished the North Mills River in Hendersonville, NC this past week and reported that there were decent Caddis and BWO (Blue Winged Olive) hatches sporadically throughout the day. He caught two rainbows and one brown for the day. He missed many others due to being rusty with his hook-sets. It's starting to get good up there!

01/30/2008

Bottom Fishing Before the Blow
On Tuesday, January 29, I fished offshore with Capt. Rick Reddick of PurposeOne Charters.

12/30/2007

Warm weather, calm winds, and great fishing
The fishing this week has been great. I got a chance to fish the falling tide at Folly earlier in the week and was able to catch 15 redfish in less than 2 hours.

12/29/2007

Great Winter Fishing
The fishing has still been going strong the last couple of weeks, both inshore and offshore. The reds are schooled up thick right now on the flats and along the Intracoastal and are taking Gulp jerk shads and Exudes.

12/13/2007

Good luck to all and tight lines!
The fishing right now has been consistantly picking up, and I've been seeing some good days with mixed bags of redfish and trout.

12/12/2007

One of the better bottom fishing trips I’ve had in a long time!
We left Shem Creek in the dark and fog and were anchored up on our first spot in 95’ of water just after daybreak.

12/04/2007

Insanely Good Fishing
The inshore fishing is insanely good right now; if you’re thinking about getting out there soon, then go!!!

11/28/2007

First Ever Offshore Adventure
On Tuesday, November 20, I took a good customer Pete out for his first ever offshore adventure.

11/11/2007

Fishing in the Wando
Went fishing in the Wando and trolled for some trout.

11/08/2007

The trout fishing is as good as it gets right now!
Inshore, the trout fishing is as good as it gets right now! Our customers are reporting catches of 25-50 trout per trip right now, and some big fish over 20 inches have been caught as well.

08/01/2007

The Early Angler Gets the Bite
On August 1, I fished offshore with a customer Shawn on his 28' Southport. The northeast wind was cranking all day and the seas were sloppy and choppy, making for some tough fishing conditions with just two of us on board. We made the most of things and focused on a live bottom area in 140' of water about 40 miles offshore.

07/26/2007

Bait Bitin'
The inshore fishing has been excellent, with all the usual suspects in the area. Good catches of trout in the rivers and creeks, using live shrimp and soft plastics. DOA deadly combos are probably your best bet.

07/05/2007

The "New" Boat
Fished yesterday for the first time on my new (to me) boat. Put the boat in right before sunrise and spent the next 2 hours looking for menhaden. Ran behind Morris, out in front of Morris down to the lighthouse, and up the ICW towards Sullivans and saw nothing. Finally got a tip from a charter captain friend that the bait was stacked up at the end of the South jetty.

06/29/2007

The Big One...that got away
Fished today with a customer Shawn on his brand new 28' Southport - super nice guy and super nice boat! He hadn't fished offshore in about 12 years and needed a refresher course. I asked him when we hit the rocks if he wanted a lot of action (stay in shallow) or go for something big (head out deeper). He opted for the latter.

06/10/2007

Dolphin Daze
Sorry I have not been reporting much recently, but the dolphin fishing is still excellent. I’ve been several times in the last few weeks, and the results have been the same: dolphin, dolphin, and more dolphin!!!!

05/24/2007

Catch 'em while you can!
The Day started at 3:30 Am when I pulled up to John Sykes, a fellow Charleston Angler Employee's house to hook up the boat and begin our trek south to Beaufort. As with all early morning fishing trips the sleep deprivation was overcome by the overwhelming anticipation that only a day on the water can bring.

05/07/2007

Spring has sprung!
The fishing has been absolutely spectacular recently, both offshore and inshore. Last week, we saw a great period of calm weather allowing lots of boats to venture offshore. The dolphin are now here in force, and most boats that fished last week reported fishboxes full of dolphin. Most of the dolphin are being caught at the edge of the stream in 800 to 1500 feet of water, although good numbers of fish have been reported closer in around the ledge as well. The wahoo fishing is good on the ledge, and the big yellowfins made a strong showing last week to the south around the 100 fathom curve. The billfish have also started showing up; a number of blues were released last week, and one boat even released 2 white marlin and 1 blue marlin in a single afternoon on the edge. One customer reported catching several wahoo and dolphin on Shimano Butterfly jigs when the trolling slowed in the afternoon - definitely another great tactic to try when the fish aren't cooperating.

04/10/2007

Shallow Redfish
Despite the cooler temperatures, the fishing was great today. With the last part of the falling tide early in the morning, we were able to get on some good redfish on the flats. They were feeding well and we caught a few on the fly rod using tan and white clousers.

03/30/2007

Wednesday Wahoo
On Wednesday, March 28, we decided to give the offshore trolling a try for the first time of the season. The weather was absolutely beautiful, and we made it out to the Southwest Banks by 7:30 am.

03/15/2007

Tuna Time
This report comes to use courtesy of Capt. Adam Paul aboard the “Adam and Evil,” his 28’ Triton. On March 14, Adam fished offshore out of Charleston for the first time this year and managed to put his crew on some yellowfin tuna!!

03/14/2007

Amberjacks Galore
On March 14, we decided to take advantage of some nice spring weather to make a run to the Edisto Banks to spend some time trying out the new Shimano Butterfly Jigging systems. The fact that my arms and back are sore today speaks volumes about these jigs.

03/08/2007

Nearshore Reef Fishing
On March 7, I headed out to some of the nearshore reefs with Capt. Robert Olsen of Knot at Work Charters on his 30’ Sailfish for a little bit of sheepshead fishing. Our first stop at the Lowcountry Anglers reef found hordes of small black seabass but no sheepshead, so we decided to head on out to 4KI (Kiawah Reef). We got anchored up over a nice piece of structure, and after about thirty minutes, the fish started to turn on.

03/05/2007

Windy Days
Wind from the south, from the north, from the notheast, and from about every other direction possible. And with some force. Thats kind of been the story for about the past two weeks. It finally broke a little bit last Thursday and the fishing was incredible.

02/12/2007

Offshore, Finally!
The weather was absolutely beautiful – a light south wind and 1 to 2 foot seas. We got an early start before the sun came up and by 8:30 am, were checking out some live bottom spots in 110 to 120 feet of water.

02/08/2007

Flats Fishing
Flats’ fishing has been the norm for this time of year. Big schools of redfish are holed up in shallow, clear water. The best baits for me have been heavy gold spoons and the tried and true gulp along with various top water plugs when they are feeding good.

02/02/2007

Backyard Bass
With all of the great saltwater fishing around Charleston, we often overlook some of the great freshwater fishing opportunities right under our noses.

01/17/2007

Folly River Reds
On Tuesday, after taking care of other obligations, I decided to load up the kayak and gear and head towards Folly for some January redfish action. After a mile or so paddle towards lighthouse creek, I staked out and began tossing a pearl-white doa under a cajun thunder float to a few docks in the area. The tide had just reached slack low as I hooked my first fish, a small red in the 16-17" range.

01/16/2007

Western NC Mountains
Two of us, Joe Geddings and myself, left well before dawn on Thursday morning and arrived at 7:30am to find the air temperature somewhere near 20 degrees in the town of Brevard. We started fishing on the hatchery section of the Davidson River at 8am knowing we were in for a long, chilly morning before the temperature would rise enough to seriously get the fish in the mood to feed. Until 1:00pm we were given nice long crystallized gifts from mother nature in the form of icicles on our rod guides.

12/13/2006

Rainy Fishing Report
Despite some wet weather, we had yet another great day of fishing on Wednesday, December 13.

12/08/2006

Winter Bottomfishing
On Wednesday, December 6, the weather finally gave us a little break and allowed us to slip out to 90-100’ for some bottomfishing.

12/01/2006

Keep fishing the Grubs!
Fished The Hamlin Sound from low tide to just before noon.

11/29/2006

Fishing with Grubs
The inshore fishing is still going strong. On Wednesday, November 29, John Sykes and I took a customer to some of the spots down towards Folly that have been producing lately.

11/18/2006

Reds on the Fly
I launched out into the Copahee Sound on a beautiful morning, with very little wind and an outgoing tide. I have been getting quite a few trout here lately, and while i enjoy catching trout, I decided that today I wanted to get into some reds.

11/16/2006

Incredible Fishing Story
The inshore fishing is nothing short of phenomenal right now – if you’ve been waiting to put together an inshore trip, then now is the time!!

11/14/2006

Fishing with Dad
Dad came in town so we got an early start to the same spot. Same continuous action as the day before but again no real size to the Reds at the first stop. Tucker was with us and he got the flounder to bite the Calcutta White Saltwater tube.

11/13/2006

Big Flounder Bite
Put in at Sullivans Island on a low tide in the am ran North up the ICW stopped by the normal bait catching spots to find no bait. Could'nt find any shrimp or finger mullet in what seemed like 20 casts from the cast net. Had all the artificials so today looked like we were going to be doing some casting.

11/13/2006

More Kayak Fishing
A good customer of mine, Jack, and I set out in his boat with our kayaks strapped in on monday morning. Our plan was to catch the early morning low tide in Hamlin sound.

11/12/2006

Kayak Fishing
I launched my kayak from the old sullivans island boat landing at high tide and paddled into the ICW to fish the outgoing tide. I fished from 12:00 till dark and ended up the day with about 12 or so trout ranging from 13- 16 inches.

11/06/2006

Bottom Fishing and Trout
The bottom fish are snapping right now over live bottom and artificial reefs.

10/26/2006

Cooling Weather
The cooling weather has the inshore fish on the feed. I fished yesterday behind Isle of Palms and in the harbor and caught a mixed bag of trout, redfish, flounder, and black drum. Live shrimp and mud minnows were the baits of choice yesterday.

10/06/2006

Calm Seas
This past weekend brought light winds and calm seas, allowing the offshore fleet to venture out in full force. Lots of sailfish action was reported; fish were free-jumping everywhere and schools of sails were seen balling schools of bait in 250 to 400 feet of water. Most boats reported between 2 and 10 sailfish releases for the weekend. Quite a few wahoo are around, and a few bruisers over 50 lbs were caught. Most of the wahoo and sailfish action occurred straight out or a little bit south, although one boat that fished the Georgetown Hole reported a mixed bag of wahoo, dolphin, and blackfin tuna.

09/21/2006

Tons of Fish
On Wednesday, September 20, I fished the outgoing tide at the jetties, and the bite was on. Using live finger mullet, live shrimp, mudminnows, and cut mullet, we caught nearly 100 fish over the course of the morning!

09/19/2006

Shrimp-Time Fishing
Well, Shrimp Baiting Season is finally here. Which signals a change in temperature both in and out of the water. Good for the fish and for us. During the shrimp baiting season, you can usually have a lot of the better fishing areas all to yourself.

09/07/2006

Strong Fishing
The fishing has been strong in recent weeks, both inshore and offshore. Labor Day weekend brought sunny skies and calm seas, allowing lots of boats to make the trek offshore for the first time in a while.

08/25/2006

On Fire!
The king mackerel fishing has been on fire recently, everywhere from the jetties out to forty miles.

08/16/2006

Warm Weather
Inshore shallow water fishing has increased in the months due to water temperature warming. Flounder fishing has become more consistent in the area of Copahee sound and gray bay. Nice sized fish are taken using a variety of different methods.
